Description:
The Church of Reconciliation (german: Versöhnungskirche) was constructed between the years 1965 and 1967. This protestant Church is located on the site of the former Dachau concentration camp. During the rule of the Nazi Party in Germany until the end of the of World War II, it was a notorious Nazi concentration camp, located near Munich. It served as a place of imprisonment, forced labor, and persecution, where tens of thousands of individuals, primarily political prisoners, Jews, and other persecuted groups, were subjected to horrific conditions, abuse, and mass killings. After war the Dachau Concentration Camp transitioned from a site of Nazi persecution to a memorial and educational center. It became a symbol of remembrance and a place to honor the victims who suffered there. The camp was preserved as a memorial site, and efforts were made to document the history and atrocities committed within the concentration camp. Several religious buildings were constructed on the site, including a protestant church.
